Primark Stand Glorious
There is strength in femininity for fashion this season. Poise, positivity and wearing what you like is what the Primark AW18 girl is all about; exemplifying the trend that embodies them, while striving for maximum originality.
In ‘Urban Eccentrics’, slip dresses are satin, slinky and figure-hugging featuring sheer detailing and embellishment. They are most likely worn layered with an uncomplicated, oversized bright hoody or retro track top. A nod to hip-hop nostalgia is expected and statement sports jackets are revitalized when worn with luxe leisure trainers. Nylon puffas are also worn over suiting, or even under a heavier winter coat demonstrating more is more.
It wouldn’t be autumn without some frivolous faux fur, and this season muppet fur is the champion. ‘Winter Folk’ is jam-packed with borg lined coats, retro teddy fleeces and plush touch flannels. Knitwear is also amplified for the months ahead. Extreme funnel necks, sequin zebra prints, tinsel yarn, and fringing on knits are some of the stand-out styles. While cartoon motifs, floral designs and camo add a touch of quirk to
the otherwise crafty, effortless yarns.
‘Country Fling’ showcases that tailoring is sophisticated and grown-up but offset by youthful accessories. Checks are officially a thing, but there is nothing safe about them. The bold tartan suit in bright royal blues and clashed yellows checks can’t be missed and screams true 90s teen movie vibes. When paired with a football scarf it is a compelling urban combination. Jumbo and baby corduroy suiting add a slight retro feel.
Love your looks loud and proud? ‘Saturated Brights’ sees brilliant, bold vibrancy on jackets, coats, and trousers that is unfamiliar for winter. A spectrum of cobalt blues, primary reds, limes and greens are reworked to look fresh.
‘Animalistic’ is everywhere and universally the coat of the season is a leopard nonconforming calf-length style that is belted and cinched in at the waist for a full on feminine-feel. Brown settles in and infiltrates a number of trends with toffee tones and rich neutrals. These are offset with subtle splashes of neon that continue to grow as the months get chillier. ‘Working Girl’ has a monochrome colour palette with punchy flashes of neon yellow and lime green.
As we move through the season the look morphs into an ultra-femme, futuristic trend called ‘Galactic Rave’. Purple reigns for winter and is the foundation against darker synthetic surfaces. Ultraviolet is on the very edge of the light spectrum, which gives it a sense of mystery that accents galactic silver impeccably. High-waisted PU trousers and textured velvet suiting will be on everyone’s wishlist. The hero piece of this trend is a glossy plasticised PU trench coat.
AW18 at Primark is true fantasy, bursting with eclectic juxtapositions, reinforcing fashion as the ultimate escapism to the monotonous backdrop of the concrete world around us. The AW18 collection is available from August through to December.
